It’s easy to set up your own garage door insulation. The way to go about this is to closely follow the step-by-step guide and to ensure that you have all the necessary equipment.
Among the things you may have to use are: a screw with a star-shaped head, or some other type as advised by hardware store staff, 1 to 2 rolls of insulation for your garage door, 1 to 2 gallons of fresh paint, which will be used as the coating for the door, as well as extra trims, tough scissors, a power drill, a sander (preferably an electric one), a rag, drop cloth, painter’s tape and paint brushes, etc.
When you are sure that you have all the necessary materials, begin by first slicing segments of the fiberglass, and then placing each on a surface. The plywood is then screwed precisely on the door. It is done this way so the segments are correctly aligned, and do not extend beyond the area. Finally, sanding is done using a sander that is electric, as this is easiest to use, but nooks and grooves may need to be sanded by hand, to ensure that they are sanded properly. Once these are all finished, fresh paint is to be applied on the door, and then left to set overnight or half a day. Any touch-ups or corrections on the paint will need to be done after this period.
When the wood is sanded down or you slice the insulation, see to it that you put on a mask to ensure that dust does not end up in your lungs. You could suffer from inhalation of tiny bits of plywood or fiberglass. At the same time, protect your hands by wearing work gloves. Fiberglass can be pretty sharp and rough, and you could chafe your skin, as you handle the material. This could leave you scratching yourself for quite a while.
