Art for Kids is Not Only for School

There are many parents that believe that art should remain in school with the kids. They don’t like any kind of mess and don’t feel like scrubbing marker and crayon markings off of their walls and furniture. It would be a shame however, if parents decided because they didn’t want to be more careful about allowing kids to get to the art materials unattended, that they would ban art and art projects from the home. It’s true that kids can misuse art materials and make a mess, but if you keep the materials out of the way until they are ready for use, then it is very beneficial for the children.

I am not talking about activities like giving them coloring pages for boys and girls. Those activities are boring and useless. sometimes they do keep the kids busy while Mom is cooking dinner, but that’s about the only benefit you get from coloring pages. Of course, if the children are coloring without coloring pages then that is much better for them and it will keep them busy longer.

I am talking about art like paper crafts ideas, collages, drawing and other creative types of art. When parents allow the children to do art at home it gives children a tremendous outlet for creativity. It may be messy but, there are ways to manage the mess as well. Purchasing a small table for the kids to use over and over again keeps the mess in one place. It is a wonderful opportunity for parents to bond with their kids as they can sit with them while they are pasting or painting. Art at home makes for calmer, happier children and it really is a great way to keep them busy on rainy days and other days that they can’t do anything else.
